Pen Turning 1

This beginning class introduces you to the lathe, its parts, and the basics of pen turning using gauges and a pen kit. You'll make two pens, and when you have completed the class you should feel confident in making beautiful pens as personal gifts.

Your first pen will be turned from Alder wood, and you will have a choice of woods for your second pen. You will also learn how to cut and drill a pen blank, how to stain and finish your pens using beeswax and polishing compounds, and learn how to assemble your pens. Experience in the woodshop is helpful but not required.  

Cyanoacrylate (super glue) will not be used for finishing in this class.
